Be Engrossed

I’m not too fond of planning, and that is not the reason for choosing this emotion. The primary reason for writing this subject is that I was on the list of emotions I downloaded. Also, it seems to be an essential and much-needed feeling. Before you question me on the nuances of this concept, let me begin the article. Engrossed is not a term that we use in our general conversation. I am not talking about the people who use jargon and complex words. A fair percentage of Indian English speakers do not use this word. I have not come across this word even in novels and magazines.

Even if I did at some point, it did not register. However, when I saw the meaning of the word, it made to think. The human population could benefit from this concept. We live in an era where every action is supposed to have a reaction or consequence. The ideology of living in the present is reserved for quotes and a few motivational speakers. I receive WhatsApp messages time and again about the significance of living in the present. However, I never really know how to infuse it into daily activities.

We are so involved in the past and worried about the future that we fail to relish the present. According to the dictionary, Engrossed means to pay complete attention or interest to any situation or action. This might seem like a simple task, but it tells a different story if we look closely. Humans have and will always believe in the concept of evolution for our survival and progression. This change is required to grow as a community and to avoid stagnation. We never really get comfortable or satisfied. There is always the thirst and hunger to crave for a little more.

This could be a good thing, as it will motivate people to improve their skills. However, we are also losing an essential element by focussing on this factor. We are failing to relish the complete experience at the current moment. We complete a circle of life without enjoying the phases. Nevertheless, we cannot blame the individuals as they follow the norms of the collective community. Every person is expected to achieve certain milestones in life to justify their place in the system. People who deny or defy these norms are treated as outcasts.

This forces a majority of people to follow the herd to fit in. After all, no one likes to be left out or ridiculed. As a procrastinating writer, I often find myself lost in space and thought. Though I might not contemplate the future, I would regret the past. Thinking back, I could have focussed more on the current task rather than criticise my shortcoming. It might not be a simple task and would require tremendous practice. However, it could help us to handle the daily activities and challenges in a stress-free manner. Please note that this blog is not for advanced readers, and this could be my last post.
